About the Blue Cave

What is the Blue Cave on Biševo

The Blue Cave is a sea cave on the south east side of Biševo, a small island close to Vis. On clear days between late morning and early afternoon, sunlight enters the cave through an underwater opening and reflects off the white sea floor, turning the water and the walls an unreal shade of silver blue. The cave is one of Croatia’s protected natural monuments and the main reason travellers sail from Split and Trogir for a full day at sea.

Why visit the Blue Cave?

A natural phenomenon

The glowing blue water only happens here and in a handful of caves worldwide. No filter needed, the photos look unreal on their own.

Paired with the best of Vis

Blue Cave tours continue to Stiniva, a bay ranked among Europe’s most beautiful, and the old fishing
town of Komiža.

Bucket list worthy

If you only pick one boat day in Croatia, this is the route most guests remember
for years.

Getting there

How to get to the Blue Cave from Split or Trogir

The fastest way to reach the Blue Cave is by speedboat. From Split Riva or Trogir the crossing takes around ninety minutes, and the cave itself is entered by small wooden boats operated by the local agency on Biševo. Our tours include the official cave ticket, the transfer boat fee and all port charges, so your day is fully covered from pickup to return. Ferry transport is not a realistic option for a day trip, since the schedules do not line up with the hours when the cave glows. A speedboat tour, either as part of a small group departure or as a private charter, is the only time efficient route.

About the Blue Cave

Best time of day and season to visit

The cave glows brightest between 11:00 and 13:00 on sunny days. Our tours depart early in the morning to reach Biševo during that window and to avoid the queue that builds up in peak summer. June, September and early October offer the best mix of settled weather, warm sea and quieter stops. July and August are busier but still worth it when the forecast is clear.
